PEELINGS
The application on the skin for a few
minutes of a liquid of diluted acid (glycolic acid,
trichloracetic acid, or kojic acid) results in a controlled
desquamation of the skin, looking like a sunburn, but
is not distressing. It is an excellent method of treatment
for acne, oily skin, certain brown skin patches and
small wrinkles. The procedure lasts about 30 minutes.
We normally recommend three to six sessions
with a gap of two to four 4 weeks in between. These
peels can be repeated regularly to ameliorate the quality
of the skin progressively. Other more efficient peels,
but more aggressive peels (phenol) needing requiring
a deep local anesthesia, are equally at the disposition
of the surgeon. The results are then comparable to those
of dermabrasion or laser resurfacing.
